Golden Globes Being Sued!

What a way to put a dampner on the start of awards season!

According to reports today, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is being sued for accepting money, vacations and gifts from entertainment companies in exchange for nominating their TV shows and movies for awards! (Uh oh)

The lawsuit claims that the 80 members of the HFPA are corrupt and are running a scheme where they accept bribes in order to select nominees for the awards show. The association is being sued by former HFPA publicist Michael Russell claims the group owes him $2 million in lost salary and other damages in the lawsuit.

Apparently Russell was fired after he told the HFPA that its defective business practices could jeopardize its lucrative contract with NBC television, estimated to be worth $26 million in 2012. He then accused them of: “accepting money/per diem, lavish vacations, junket lodging, gifts and other perks each year provided by studios and producers in exchange for support or votes."

Could it be true? Well one thing I have to say, how did The Tourist get any nominations? That was a bit of a farce!
