'I nearly had sex with Paula Abdul,' reveals Simon Cowell... but he was too scared of the 'aftermath'

Close call: Simon Cowell told Barbara Walters on her 10 Most Fascinating People Special last night, that he came close to sleeping with his American Idol and X Factor co-host Paula Abdul

With their endless displays of affection and constant flirtation, there has always been speculation surrounding the nature of their relationship.

With their shared smooches, red-carpet cuddles and apparent sexual tension, Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul could often be mistaken as a couple.

Now the 52-year-old X Factor judge has revealed that he actually came close to sleeping with the 49-year-old Opposite Attract singer.

Speaking to Barbara Walters on her annual 10 Most Fascinating People Special last night, Cowell said he considered bedding his friend of nine years, however he was terrified about the aftermath.

'I considered it, but then I thought, "I don't think the after would be as good as the before," he explained.

'I'd let her stay for a few hours, but then it would have to be goodnight,' he joked.

Revelation: Cowell told Walters that Abdul desperately wanted something to happen between the pair

He said that Abdul desperately wanted something to happen between the pair.
'A million percent,' he said.

He explained that during the first season of American Idol the pair couldn't stand each other, on account of her feelings towards him.

'I mean, the truth was, on the first two seasons, we couldn't travel on the same plane together. We really disliked each other that much,' he said.

Plush: Walters conducted the interview in the lush back garden of Cowell's L.A mansion

'I think it was the sexual tension on her part.'

Paula and Simon's love-hate relationship captivated American Idol fans from the moment they appeared on the judging panel together.

Ever since, the duo have been in close contact with one another and now appear on the judging panel for the X Factor, alongside Nicole Scherzinger and L.A Reid.

Suspect: With their endless displays of affection and constant flirtation, there has always been speculation surrounding the nature of their relationship

And during the course of their friendship and television appearances, Simon and Paula have even been forced to lampoon rumours that they are dating.

One skit during an old American Idol episode even saw the duo having a romantic meal together, and sharing a lingering kiss.

Of course, Simon is said to be still currently engaged to fiancée Mezhgan Hussainy.

Longtime pals: Simon and Paula have known each other for nine years, here seen on the American Idol panel alongside Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest

However, he remains good friends with a few of his ex girlfriends, including Jackie St.Clair and Sinnita.

In January, Mezhgan calmly stood by as her fiancé embraced Jackie outside Cipriani's restaurant in London.

Obviously used to her fiancé's lifestyle, she didn't appear too concerned as she watched the clinch between the two.

In fact, Jackie even joined Simon and Mezhgan on holiday in the Caribbean, along with another of Simon's ex-girlfriends Sinitta, in December 2010.

During his interview with Walters last night, the veteran host grilled him about his Mr. Nasty persona.

Simon said in actual fact, he really liked people.

'I like people,' he said. 'I can usually look into someones eyes and tell if they are a nice person.'

Simon Cowell Is Exploiting Children In The Entertainment Industry

There's A Serious Problem There That Needs To Be Addressed

Former "American Idol" talent judge and current resident chief grump on "X-Factor" is exploiting children for ratings on the show. Nowhere was it more apparent than the breakdown of 12-year-old Rachel Crow on air, when she was eliminated from his contrived show that is completely rigged.

"X-Factor" talent judges

It's clear Crow sustained emotional trauma from the games being played on the show. She is not the only minor that experienced this all in the name of ratings (that show is lacking it). Dangling that carrot of fame before children's faces so Cowell can increase his unlawfully enriched bank accounts.

Simon Cowell and his unattractive Botox pinched face

The entertainment industry is not a good place for children. When industry people aren't ripping off and using children for their own financial enrichment, they are sexually exploiting them, as seen with the arrest of three prominent Hollywood executives over the past few weeks.

X-Factor Ratings Plunge Again Leaving Simon Cowell Red-Faced After Boasts

"X-Factor" cast

The ratings for Fox's "X-Factor" talent show, starring greedy Simon Cowell, who bragged that it would beat his former show "American Idol" have plunged again. Ratings are down by an additional 10% proving Cowell's boasts wrong.

The show has been plagued by scandal and controversy which turned viewers off, rather than boosting ratings, which are half "American Idol" numbers, but that too is on the decline. This talent show genre is worn out and too much. Enough already.

99% of the judges know nothing about talent, are being paid to be controversial and start fake disputes and rivalries. At the end of the day, this erodes the quality of music being released, as a number of the songs springing from these shows are hit with copyright infringement lawsuits or claims of the same.

X-Factor Is X-Flopping In America

Ratings Are Half What 'American Idol' Pulled In

X-Factor cast

In spite of the fact "American Idol" ratings have been steadily declining since 2008, former talent judge Simon Cowell's new show, "X-Factor" fared even worse in its U.S. debut, with half the ratings of its predecessor. Has the world had its fill of bad, cheesy karaoke music and mean judges that know nothing about music and real talent (See: Simon Cowell arrogantly failing to spot Jennifer Hudson's talent, then making the same mistake again with Susan Boyle).

Simon Cowell's new face

Even in light of all the publicity stunts Cowell engaged in to launch "X-Factor" coupled with a tremendous amount of costly advertising and a new plastic surgery issued face (which looks painful, might I add) it has greatly underperformed (both the show and his face). The byproducts of these shows inevitably end up being soulless, derivative music the public can do without.

Fashion Fix - Cheryl Cole (v) Paula Abdul

Let the fashion face off begin!

Yes, it may have been Dannii Minogue versus Cheryl Cole last year, but 2011 will see Paula Abdul stand off with the Geordie as they compete with their style.

Today marked the first day Cheryl has come on top. After her dreadful multi-coloured outfit on her first day and a boring red dress on her second, she is finally standing out for all the right reasons.

Cheryl showed off a seriously cute 50's styled poka-dot dress with little dotted heels (too cute). Meanwhile Paula looked dreadful in a tight leopard skin skirt paired with a navy flower top... someone please fire her stylist!!

Poka-dots are really back in now girls, so get shopping or dig out that old dotted dress you wanted to hide!

Paula Abdul Tells The World Cheryl Cole Is "Lovely"

Best Pals All Of A Sudden?

It looks like this Geordie WAG has come an awful long way!

Cheryl Cole has reached her dream and is about to break America, not just as an X Factor judge but as a singer too, as apparently Jay-Z will be signing her to his record label Roc Nation.

But what do the fellow celebs think of her? Well her fellow X Factor judge Paula Abdul has said she loves the big-haired woman! Tweeting the above picture Paula wrote:
"Gotta tell you about Cheryl- 'The Fierce' is STRONG w/ this one! :) she's lovely! xoP"
I bet Cheryl is happy to get that seal of approval. But no doubt there will be stories printed soon about their 'rivarly'. Let the drama begin!
