Michelle Williams Opens Up About Heath Ledger's Death

It's the interview we have all been waiting for.

Nearly three years after the death of actor Heath Ledger, his former partner, actress Michelle Williams publicly discusses the pain of losing the father to her 5-year-old daughter Matilda.

In an interview with Nightline Williams says that the year Ledger died was confusing:
"In a strange way, I miss that year, because all those possibilities that existed then are gone"

She admits that to cope with the loss, she read The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion. Michelle says this helped her through the pain:
"It didn't seem unlikely to me that he could walk through a door or could appear behind a bush," Williams says. "It was a year of very magical thinking, and in some ways I'm sad to be moving further and further away from it."

The actress, who co-starred in Broke Back Mountain with Ledger, admits that she still can't wrap her head around all that's happened:
"I've found meanings around the circumstance, but the actual event itself still doesn't..." she says before trailing off. "I can't find a meaning for it. I can find meanings in things and people and relationships that have sprung up, and friendships that have strengthened. I can find a lot of meaning in that, but not in why."

In the emotional interview Michelle continued:
"I know I got kind of obsessed with that for awhile, the before and after. A lot of things died," Williams says as she fights back tears. "There's a line from a book that gave me so much comfort and it said, 'When you've truly lost everything, then at least you can become rich in loss.'"
Even though the couple were separated by the time of his death, it's clear that Michelle and Heath were still emotionally connected. Having Matilda together would always connect them, and it's clear he's not only a huge loss to the acting world, but also to his family, who will never forget him.
